Fermentables was established by Eric Lancaster in 1994. Eric purchased the
store, formally The Treasure Chest, and converted it into a full-scale
homebrew and winemakers supply store. Eric built a loyal following of local
and statewide customers before his accidental death on November 11, 2002.
Eric was killed in a four-wheel ATV accident while hunting in Malvern, AR.
Eric's sister, Suzanne Lancaster and her future husband Mike Byrum,
became the new owners of Fermentables in February 2002. The circumstances
are unfortunate, but we are happy to continue to provide the quality of
service that Eric's customer had become accustomed to. Mike Byrum has been
making beer and wine since 1995, with most of his skills learned
under the direction of the former owner Eric Lancaster.
Fermentables maintains its friendly mom and pop atmosphere while
providing top quality products with professional and knowledgeable help. Our
goal is to provide the best customer service possible and to help others
learn about the fermentation process.
